You’re proud of yourself. You set a goal for yourself, and you reached it, thanks to a weight loss plan. You can finally say you have the body that you want now that you have shed those excess pounds. However, you can’t let your guard down. It is all too easy to see that weight creep up on you again. You have to be vigilant in your efforts to maintain a healthy weight. It’s all about making lifestyle changes that can be carried on through the years.
Continue to Stay Active
You need to embrace physical activity in some form on a regular basis. Whether you take your dog for a walk each morning, pop in your favorite workout DVD or head to the gym, there are many ways that exercise can be a part of your life. As a rule of thumb, plan on at least thirty minutes a day. If you aren’t happy with your results, you can always exercise more. Include strength training. It will help you to burn fat and build muscle at the same time.
Watch What You Eat
Just because you reached your ideal weight doesn’t mean you can go back to old eating habits. You need to make healthy choices. You can indulge from time to time, but you have to stay on track. You can substitute veggies for carbs, load up on plenty of fresh produce and choose proteins that are good for you.
Don’t Forget Your Water
Keep drinking water. It’s your best friend. Make it ice water and you’ll help your metabolism to work even harder for you. Have a glass about a half hour before your meal. It will help you to avoid overindulging. Drink more water between meals. When you go out to dinner, ask for water instead of wine or a soft drink. It will cost less and mean fewer calories in your system.
Make Sure You Get Enough Rest
Sleep well each night and you will help your body to maintain itself. You can keep that slim figure when you eat well, exercise and cap off your day with a good night’s rest. This is your body’s time to take care of the damages that happen after a busy day. You’ll wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the challenges of a new day.
Look for Healthy Snacks
If you have the urge to snack, choose wisely. Go for fruit or vegetables. Add a little peanut butter to give your body the protein that it needs. Avoid anything that is loaded with sugar, additives and preservatives. Make sure you give yourself a cut-off each night as well. Plan on avoiding any more food after 7:00 PM. It won’t be sitting there in your system like a lump. Eat a snack in the morning and afternoon to fuel your body and stave off cravings. That way, you won’t fall into the trap of overeating when you are hungry.
